WTS – What the Surrey #9 To Little League World Series

August 13th, 2007 @ 4:00pm (PT) by Rebecca Bollwitt

Last year our kids from Whalley Little League were off to Williamsport, PA for the Little League World Series (Aug. 17-26). While our North Surrey team didn’t make the cut this time around but lucky for locals, South Surrey/White Rock stepped up to the plate.

White Rock-Surrey Little League from White Rock, British Columbia needed only four innings to defeat Calgary West Little League, 14-4, claim the Canada Region championship, and secure the final international berth in the 61st Little League Baseball World Series. [Little League Online]

Unfortunately DaveO’s favrourite team south of the border did not qualify, but they put up a valiant effort nonetheless. To catch the action they’re televising every game, between ABC, ESPN and ESPN2.

The World Series championship game can be seen live on ABC television at 3:30 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 26. ABC also will televise the International championship game on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 12:30 p.m., followed by the United States championship at 3:30 p.m. [Little League Online]

We’re super proud of the local team’s success and wish them luck at the world series.

Good to know South Surrey/White Rock boys are representing!

Go South Surrey! This is fantasticly cool entertainment for the kids and adults. I have no cable TV for the summer but will be following the results for sure. Teams from all around the world compete and the Caribbean, Asian and Pacific Island teams are ones to watch. The kids seem to have a great time staying in dorms and hanging out with their international counterparts in the top-notch facilities in Williamsport, PA.

Interesting trivia, … hockey player Chris Drury won the LLBWS as a pitcher for a Connecticut based team.
