September Calendar of Events

By Miss604

Who knew September was such a happening time in Vancouver. Just as summer seems to wind down we get fantastic weather and every single artist and musician I have on my ipod is coming to play a show in town. I just saw Holly McNarland last night, will see Matthew Good on the 20th and They Might be Giants on the 25th.

In super-exciting yet also terrifying news, I will be interviewing Sparta tonight before they open the show for Alice in Chains and Velvet Revolver at the Pacific Coliseum. The terrifying part? John will be working so I’ll be flying solo, doing my first interview for the RadioZoom podcast, all by my lonesome.

In other music news, when listening to 107.7 The End during our recent mini road trip south of the border I discovered Shiny Toy Guns. They’ll be playing a concert in Vancouver on the 10th at the CCC. Listen for them on an upcoming episode of RadioZoom.

This weekend my sister and I face off against 6 other teams for the Surrey edition of The Amazing Hunt. We just received our race instructions this morning on the race’s blog so we’re pretty excited (and I’m happy start time is 9:45 and not some ungodly hour at which I wouldn’t possibly be able to catch a bus in Surrey)

Also this weekend, it’s Davie Day!

To celebrate the diversity and culture of this unique section of the West End, the 4th annual Davie Day is happening this Saturday, September 8th, between 11am and 8pm on - you guessed it - Davie Street. The entire street is blocked off between Broughton Street and Burrard Street to make room for vendors, entertainers, giveaways and even a special section just for kids. [Keira-Anne]

Later in the month, September 21st is the 1 year anniversary of Workspace - the most happening and relaxing work and play space in the city.

This isn’t in September but the news has come down that the LA Galaxy’s beautifully chiseled and talented midfielder won’t be ready to play in an exhibition against the Whitecaps on October 3rd so the event has been postponed. If you were one of 45,000 people who have already paid to see Becks play, I’m certain your tickets will carry over to the new date. [News1130]

Breakfast John Finally, September 24th is the most special day of all, where we celebrate John being a lot older than I am (teehee). What should I do for the newly landed immigrant on his birthday? I know the first step… 1) create the Facebook event.

Update: AHH! I totally forgot about the home opener for the Canucks on September 17th that Keira and I will be attending. Mind you this is just pre-season action but I was ready for them to drop the puck even at the jersey unveiling - can’t wait!

Wow, two urban hunt races in Vancouver within a month or so! Chicago just had two this summer. Must be a trend. Good luck with your race tomorrow!

could you please give Bert a big hug from me and tell him I miss him?

I’m so psyched for this season. This is our year, I know it. :)
