This was very nice to read. I went to the Smiling Buddha a few times in the late 70's - can't remember exactly which year - and it was exciting in a different way. Vancouver was already sort of established as a Punk town and this place was different, even for East Hastings. At the ripe old age of 23-24 I was, however, something of an old fart to the crowd there and was under much suspicion until they finally figured that I was A) not a cop, and B) actually open to the music, which I have to admit was far from typical of more traditional long haired rock and roll types of my age and older. Brings back some great memories. Thanks!

Thanks for the slice of (punk) history. It's not often one thinks about Vancouver before Expo `86.
