After my experience on Digg when my "asshole" post hit the community there, I'm fairly convinced that anyone who would follow a blog code of conduct is already doing so, prior to the publishing of the same. :) I probably wouldn't have written that post at this point, with the things I've seen since as both a blogger and a reader.

Anyone who is going to flame will keep flaming, no matter how many times they get deleted or smacked down. Life is like that, too... people with a negative message are some of the most determined people on earth.

On an unrelated note, I emailed MetBlogs once about writing for them, never heard back. :) Apparently I'm not a "top quality author." Ha!

Gorgeous photo indeed, and I hope you are feeling better!

mean comments suxx. & Twitter is my microblogging platform of choice. Pownce is definitely catching on as i like the fact that there is no character limit. i always have to control myself on twitter. guess i'm just a wee bit too wordy. No one is on Jaiku. No one. I have something like 8 friends. And that's not enough to get excited about. For me, microblogging is all about the community. And Twitter wins. Hands down.

I actually quite dislike the Blogger Code of Conduct. Not for anything particular included in it, just the very idea that there even needs to something like it. Good manners is good manners whether or not someone is online, inline at a grocery store or at home with their kids. If people don't know how to behave, pointing at something cooked up by a few bloggers they've never met isn't going to change their minds.

To a certain degree though my view of the situation is skewed. Having been in journalism I'm used to getting bonked by readers. I think it's an important part of having an open dialogue, and for the most part the really rabid ones tend to do a better job of making fools of themselves than their targets.

The old adage is don't start an argument with someone who buys ink by the barrel. It's just as true online. At the end of the day you control what happens on your site, if you feel someone crosses the line take it down. My tendency would be not to, but that's me I'm weird. The sad fact though is the more exposure someone gets, and the more success, the more they're going to get people who feel like knocking them down a peg or two. It's why people are always claiming bands "sold out". It's just the ugly side of human nature.

P.S. Thanks for the plug for the recruitment drive. Hopefully we get some more top quality authors.

Great idea, Rebecca!

How do you manage to have great content ideas even when you're not feeling well? :D

I think one point you've brought up quite frequently on your blog (and that I think you've very accurately shown how to do in a very appropriate way - linking and crediting sources and photo credits) should be included in the Bloggers Code of Conduct.

I, for one, have followed guidelines on how you do things because I find that it is a very appropriate way of doing it. For example, crediting photos. I now have learned how to directly blog from Flickr to WordPress and if you see how my photos are credited, it's the same way you do. I think you've done a very fine job of showing how to properly credit photos and spread link love. Just my 2 Canadian cents. :D

Count me in for that new Code of Conduct.

On an unrelated note, excellent choice in photo. Apparently I was home with the light on when that was snapped.
