While I do take the iPod/iPhone with me on road trips, the last couple years of music on road trips to the US or to the BC Interior have been dominated by my satellite radio.

My wife and I like to mix things up musically and we always find something that suits our moods while driving and we can hear the same station usually for the majority of our trip. There are only 1-2 places where we don't get a decent signal so then we switch on the iPod.

I prefer more electronic music while driving and my wife prefers the 80's. We usually meetup somewhere in the 90's alternative area.

I have to agree with PatZ. Mixed CDs are by far the way to go. Sure, digital music players are convenient, but I think it takes away from that little somethin'-somethin' about road trips. As for some of my favourite road trip tunes, in no particular order, consist somewhat of:

"Interstate Love Song" - Stone Temple Pilots
"Rocket Man" - Elton John
"Whole Lotta Love" - Led Zeppelin
"Native Son" - Matthew Good Band
"Heartland" - U2

I'm sure I could think of a million more, but it's only 7am so cut me some slack... ;)

Glad to have you back on the coast, babelicious. We need to talk ASAP about some date action between you and me. Pronto.

Admittedly we've done away with bringing CDs into the car as we have our iPod transmitter or cable. This time around it was the iPhone or Nano on shuffle (or on some specific Playlists targeted for road trips) but we still have our faves and jumped to these key albums and tracks.
