Hmmm...IS content really king? I seem to remember the LOLcats blog being not only one of the most popular blogs, but also one of the most popular websites period.

Surely my site can be no worse?

The fact that you have even gone to the site means something. As it seems have Zadi, Nikita, Felicia (who was kind enough to send over some of her users even though most of them hated it), and Carolina(who seemed to like it or at least was supportive in my endeavors).

Let's see if I can lend a bit of perspective.

First let me say I generally know what interests people and I figured it would be a fun geeky concept to turn into a blog.

This is really my first attempt at blogging. I'm not a "name" or even have a real web presence outside of my commercial arts portfolio website.

I'm also notorious for not following though with the projects I start. So for my birthday present to myself I decided to start the blog as a hopeful experiment. It is a simple concept really. I make at least 1 post a day, every day (Monday-Friday), for a year.

The big reason there isn't much content is that until I find my "voice" I just want to focus on my visitors and maybe have a fun debate every now and again.

People are generally sharply divided over my website. They love it or hate it so I must be doing something right.

A few quick facts about my blog:

My dashboard tells me: "There are currently 232 posts and 1,290 comments, contained within 30 categories. Akismet has protected your site from 716 spam comments."

The first post was Pirate vs Ninja on 10/03/2007 (roughly 8 months ago)

I've kept up with posts every day since October 15th, 2007

I'm quickly approaching a quarter of a million visitors

I have readers in over 30 countries

RSS subscribers vary between 400-800 people, usually around 500.

I've spent $0 in advertising.

Up to this point I feel I have been successful and as long as it is a positive thing in my life and others, I'll continue.

Respectfully I'm going to have to disagree with your suggestion.

You should check it out and let me know what you all think.

Thanks for the mention,

Matt aka w00tpwnage

PS. My next blog will have more content, it's going to be a reviews site. Yeah, I know, but you have to walk before you run.

I have and continue to thoroughly enjoy reading miss604 and mostlylisa, from which I get a "hey-i-dinna-know-dat" to bursts of laughter. These are often alternated between the two blogs.

agreed. in my eyes, content remains the most important part of blogging. I've actually cut down on the number of my post so I have more time to write meaty well thought-out posts. and yes, don't worry i got a stern talking to about the butt shot. It's such a subtle balance between increasing your readership by posting "eye-candy" images (not all bikini related), and staying true to your blogging values.

I think you do it best, by occasionally posting some cheeky nerd shirt picts, but always keeping your blog on track with consistent posts and great photos.

PS. If i'd want anyone to pwn me it would be Larissa Meek. w00t.
