As an avid beer enthusiast and home brewer, I can't express how awesome a beer festival is for even the novice beer nerd. You'll get to try beers and styles that you just can't get here. Everyone pulls out all the stops for a festival and brews special release beers, crazy styles that they couldn't necessarily market on a day-to-day basis. In Victoria each year we have the Great Canadian Beer Festival (http://GCBF.com) which is a fabulous event. The 4 ounce size prevents you from getting totally waste (well, at least prolongs it for awhile) so you can taste many different beers.
