The McBarge title reminded me of this urban exploration group's site I came across one time, they're Vancouver-based (or at least they were). Here's the link to their McBarge expedition. So cool! http://www.wraiths.ca/mcbarge.htm

I spent a whole evening once reading about their exploits and viewing their pictures. It made me want to join up!

The McBarge is McDerelict, near the cement processing plant in Port Moody...

http://wikimapia.org/674555/

So nope, no floating casinos. It's in terrible shape, too. About 15 years ago there was some talk about resurrecting it as a school excursion facility in one of the northern nature preserves (an ironic turn of events, that would have been) but to no avail.

@Tyler according to wiki... "Jimmy Dean's 1962 song "Steel Men" is a ballad about the Second Narrows bridge disaster."

It's horrible to drive near Stanley Park when the sun is out.. Sooo many tourists trying to get into the park! It clogs Denman, Georgia and the surrounding area with slow moving cars. It sucks when you're trying to get over to the North Shore, so I'm glad they are offering an alternative mode of transport to get people to Stanley Park.

I read on CBC that the bridge collapsed because a Jr.Engineer miscalculated it and the bridge buckled under its own weight. That's sad. The Fox was playing some tune that talked about it but I can't find the URL for the artist..

Now you said McBarge so I thought that perhaps someone bought the floating place and might turn it into a night club or a pub. If I only had the money I would so do that!

Today is also the 50th anniversary of the Playland Wooden Rollercoaster....do you think it's first riders heard the chaos of the bridge collapse that happened so close by?

I thought about that as I drove past both this morning on my way to the North Shore for work.
