Blogathon Vancouver 2008: "M" is for Matthew Good

Comments 10 by Rebecca Bollwitt

Matt Good's Acoustic Show in his HomeWhen recently re-theming my site I created a Media Kit and within it I made sure to credit some people who have inspired and contributed to my blogging over the years, one of whom is Matthew Good.

In August of 2006 I was invited to do my first live blog and it just happened to be in Matthew Good’s living room.

Over the years he’s welcomed us into his home, his studio, and circle of friends. He’s not only a stand up guy (with two adorable handsome pups) but he’s a prized Canadian singer, songwriter and musician that is truly dedicated to his fans – and friends.

Throughout Blogathon 2008 if you pledge $10 or over for Duane’s effort, Matt has offered up a signed CD to be given away.

You know Becky, given the cause a signed CD just doesn’t seem like enough. We should do something more attractive, like offer a private listening session of the demos for the next record or something to someone for pledging the most amount of money.

    M.

When I lived in Toronto in the mid- to late-90s, I had the great fortune of having seen his earlier band incarnation, play at the Reverb and at Lee’s Palace. Long will those memories linger … in the time I was supposed to be hard at work on my graduate degree, I was instead hanging out in music bars along Queen West on cheap cover nights. Evolutionary changes in musical styles have never altered the fact that I continue to derive inspiration from his work. Much of my time in Toronto (and subsequent transcontinental relocations) are tied inextricably to memories evoked by specific phrases or songs.

@ Matt – that would be pretty sweet (and awesome of you to offer). I’ll see what kind of data I get from the UGM on Monday otherwise I’ll have folks email their donation confirmation to Duane and I so we can find the winner.

@ Henry – loving your comments on the posts, thanks for keeping me going!

No, I mean offer it up at a $100 minimum in a post or something. Just make sure to mention that I keep a list of the wackos that email me on a routine basis, so if it’s one of them then no dice but thanks for the donation!

Hell, ask for more. Those songs won’t be released for another year at least. The charity dinner I did on ebay raised thousands, and that’s just for a two hour dinner. And the winner is flying from the UK.

Awesome okay thanks – I’ll announce that soon unless I can fit this in for my “V” post somehow :-P.

Just today I thought of Matthew Good because I was reading about Matthew Goode, a British actor of some note:

    He’s apparently in “The Watchmen”.
