Kiss My Face – Lip Gloss
At first I went for the small stick of Sheer Organic Shine tinted lip balm since I’ve had bad experiences with goey lip glosses (ie. my lips stick together and my husband cringes when I kiss him on the cheek and leave sticky mess). The stick is all natural mineral color, 100% natural and 91% organic. I’m in love with the ruby shade which adds just enough colour while refreshing your lips with a pleasant peppermint scent and tiny green tea-like after taste.
“The SOS are mineral based and have a 91% organic formula, are 100% natural and are free from artificial coloring, fragrances and parabens. [TreeHugger]“
I decided to go ahead and pick up three samples of the liquid SOS lip gloss and upon application I was amazed that it was not the slightest bit sticky. Organic shea butter and jojoba oil moisten your lips while they tingle pleasantly with the same peppermint aroma. I gave a few samples to Keira last night and on Twitter this morning she said she was “basically in love“.
I also received two prototype samples of lip balm, “hand-poured in Canada and available 3/1/09.” My samples of maple sugar and pina colada are 100% natural and 90% organic, produced in Nova Scotia.
Kiss My Face – Kids
I handed off the basket to my sister for her children to try out the kid-friendly products from Kiss My Face that included lip balm, detangler, shampoo/conditioner, foaming body wash, bubble wash, and toothpaste. She and my brother in law told me that the detangler has been the most popular item in their entire household since they got it. With an orange creamcicle scent, each child is excited to brush and come their hair, as many times as they can before heading to school in the morning. The two oldest split up the lip balm pack and carry the sticks wherever they go.
The best part is that the products are all natural. For example, the lip balm contains canola oil (for moisture), organic beeswax (for skin softening with anti-oxidant properties) and aloe (to help heal and soothe). Same goes for the detangler, with ingredients like aloe vera, rice protein, and sage.
Kiss My Face also has a few online games and activities for kids including a colouring book on their site.
Kiss My Face – Other
I was also impressed that they have cut down on packaging. The boxes are 100% biodegradable and instead of paper inserts with details, instructions and ingredients, that information is posted inside the box itself.
While sitting here to type up the reviews, I used the cold & flu Room Spray for aromatherapy purposes. It fills the room with the smell of eucalyptus, fennel, menthol and essential oils. It feels like I just ate a Halls lozenge.
I’m still waiting to try out the exfoliating face wash and originally was pretty hesitant since some other organic facial products have left me feeling too greasy – but seeing the results and reception of the other items, I’m feeling pretty optimistic.
Kiss My Face – Where to Get Some
In Metro Vancouver, you can find Kiss My Face items at Capers, Choices Markets, Roots Natural, Poco Natual Foods, and London Drugs. You can find more info on their website or the official blog. KMF products will also be included in all of the prize packs for winners of the Best of 604.
I was invited to the product demo and information session and have given my honest reviews – I have not been paid (in advertising or otherwise) to write this blog post.

Funny, I went to their web site this morning after seeing an online ad somewhere – watched their video, read their blog, and was glad they’d survived as a company pretty much doing it their way. I remember when their products first started to appear in health food stores. Staff on the site raved about the menthol/eucalyptus shower gel, but perhaps you have to have a cold to appreciate it. And I’m not wishing that on you.

This post made me excited to try a few more of their items because, like you said, I am in love with their liquid lip gloss!

I love the frog. These products are pretty cool. I have also tried Lush in the past….a bit smelly but good.

I am SO jealous. I LOVE Kiss My Face stuff. It’s totally awesome. They make hands down the BEST shaving cream, and it comes in a pump bottle (not one of those non-recyclable explosive metal things) and lathers up into a great slightly foamy state that works perfectly. I also really like their foaming hand wash, the scents are yummy and you can actually buy refill bottles that contain enough for 2 pump refills, so you don’t have to keep wasting money and creating extra trash by buying the pump over and over.
Thanks for the reviews, I’m totally going to look for some of that lip balm…and possibly some of the kids detangler–why don’t they make that for adults?

I have Kiss My Face Peach body lotion, and it is VERY rich so a little goes a long way. I use Burt’s Bee’s Face creams and the tiny little cuticle cream tin is perfect for in my purse for hand moisture on-the-go (it also works double as lip balm). I recently switched my shampoo and conditioners to JASON and Alba and my boyfriend of almost 6 years told me for the FIRST TIME EVER that my hair smelled good, the very first day I used them. Now he uses them at his house, too!
I also have Alba Botanicals sunscreen because I figured sunscreen is supposed to be protective and beneficial, right? Therefore I should get sunscreen without Ethyl/Methyl/Butyl Parabens, etc. because typical sunscreen might protect me from cancer caused by the sun, but not necessarily from cancer caused by chemicals in sunscreen products!!!
I just bought Alba bio-degradable foaming hand soap. Regular soap needs to be treated in the GVRD waste plant (the Vancouver Sun had a huge cover page story last year that said “USE LESS SOAP” because the government is too cheap to update our water waste treatment plant and the amount of soap that contaminates the oceans is a problem. I find that a really pathetic way of dealing with the problem, considering “Wash your hands” is drilled into us since birth!) plus, the anti-bacterial kind promotes bacterial resistance which could lead to bad bugs in the future. Who knows, maybe I won’t like this new soap, but I’m going to try it.
This stuff isn’t even that much more expensive than the products that I used to buy, in fact the Burts’ Bees face cremes are even cheaper than VICHY. And maybe it is the psychological happy-effect of buying natural products, organic products, recyclable and biodegradable products that makes my skin healthier rather than the product itself. My skin is a lot healthier than before and much less greasy than even when I used “Shine-free” lotion. Either way, actually being able to read and understand every single ingredient in the product is important to me, because it’s MY body that I’m putting it on.
Since many of the ingredients in our Canadian products have long been banned in the UK and elsewhere, I am going to try to stick with the “Natural Products” beauty aisle from now on.
