Last week I jumped over part nine and right into part ten of my photo “Then and Now” series. I thought I better make up for it with an actual tenth installment so this week I’m featuring apartment buildings using “before” images from the City of Vancouver Archives, and “after” images from Google Street Views.
1910s
Mt Stephen Block, 7th at Quebec
2009

1910s
Florence Court, 1201 Georgia
2009

1917
Manhattan Apartments, Robson at Thurlow
2009

1926
Winchester Apartments, Barclay at Jervis
2009

1928
The Roxborough, 15th at Fir
2009

1940s
Cambie at 24th Ave
2009

Should you have any suggestions for next week’s theme, please feel free to leave a comment below.

Thanks again, RB, as I particularly like the “before” & “after” for the Manhattan Apts. at Robson & Thurlow : good times at that Bucky’s, at that intersection, and a nod to an X-Files shot from that main apt. entrance off Thurlow …

I love that the new pictures are from Google Street View, which was obviously taken in the Spring. It’s a nice reminder on this grey, rainy, miserable day of what Vancouver can be like. There is hope that we will once again be able to leave our homes without head to toe Gore-tex outfits. We will see sunshine and cherry blossoms again one day!

@Youngest Senior I was originally going to do a rain-themed post but I thought this might be a bit brighter (plus I like the contrast between before/after)
Thanks to Google Street Views & the Archives for the images.

It’s so nice to see the older architechture still around for the current generation to enjoy. So sad when an older building gets demolished

I love this before and after set, especially after seeing my first Vancouver home. When I first moved to Vancouver, I lived at 1201 West Georgia… a great landmark for my first apartment in Vancouver.

Great photos, I love the concept!! I’m a huge fan of history in general and it’s so wonderful to see the selection of buildings you’ve found! So many are in my general area – there’s a few I had no idea whatsoever were so old. Thanks!
