Archives Photos of the Day: Snow
bySnow has been the topic of conversation across the continent over the last few days and heading from Vancouver to the Midwest in the middle of a blizzard makes me appreciate our rainy weather just a little bit more. Despite the traffic snarls and transit interruptions, the snow can in fact be a whole lot of fun — especially during the holidays. I found a few flake-filled photos from the Vancouver Public Library archives that demonstrate just that.

Such beautiful pictures. What a different era.
Seeing these photos really makes me realize how much warmer the weather has become. I love outdoor skating but I have only been able to skate on Long Lake here in Nanaimo once… in the winter of 1983. The Nanaimo mayor at the time, Frank Ney was also skating on the lake so I felt safe somehow (as in I would not fall through).
