Gordie Howe is the only player to have competed in the NHL in five different decades (1940s through 1980s). A four-time Stanley Cup champion with the Red Wings, he won six Hart Trophies as the league’s most valuable player and six Art Ross Trophies as the leading scorer. He was the inaugural recipient of the NHL Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. He is also part owner of the Vancouver Giants.

VIP guests include legendary NHL brother act Bobby and Dennis Hull who will join Marcel Dionne, Orland Kurtenbach, and Johnny Bower onfor a special pre-game ceremony to celebrate Gordie Howe’s birthday. 500 randomly selected fans will also get to meet Gordie Howe and the legends during the game.

I’ve partnered with the Vancouver Giants a few times this season and we’re very excited for this particularly awesome giveaway. I would LOVE to win tix for this for my husband and here’s why: My husband is a HUGE hockey fan. In Nov. he lost a kidney to cancer. Just as he was recovering, he took our dog for a walk at night and they were attacked by a pittbull/mastiff. Both my husband and dog were injured. My dog had to have stitches for puncture wounds and my husband tore his bicep tendon clean off, while defending and saving my dog’s life. My husband had surgery last week. They had to take a tendon from his leg to repair his arm. He’s in a cast and once that comes off, will be in a brace for 8-10 weeks.

He’s been through so much stress and pain in the last 6 months and he never complains. I KNOW having the opportunity to meet Gordie Howe, one of his hockey heros and wish him a happy 85th birthday would mean EVERYTHING to him. I know would lift his spirits.

What an awesome contest! I want to win simply so I can take my Dad to meet Gordie Howe! My dad is a huuuuuge fan and has had a really tough start to 2013! I’d love nothing more than to take him to the game to relax and meet one of his idols.

  4. Norma IbarraMonday, February 25th, 2013 — 3:02pm PST

  5. Steffani CameronMonday, February 25th, 2013 — 3:03pm PST

I don’t know if I could make it over for the game, but I would love to give the tickets to my best friend who’s the ultimate Giants’ fan. He’s come over to Victoria for 6 of their games so far, has had season tickets for 3-4 seasons in the past, has a couple game-worn jerseys, flags, you name it. I also know he’s a huge Gordie fan, having bid on exclusive framed prints of Mr. Howe and never winning one yet in an action.

Everything I know about hockey I’ve either learned from my dad or my best friend, so I can’t think of a better gift to give him.

And if not, I hope it’s an amazing night for our hockey legend, Gordie Howe.

I’m a huge hockey fan, and Gordie Howe is one of the greats (also Bobby Hull and Johnny Bower? Wow!). Plus, I’m hoping to share my love for the sport with my son as he grows, and it’d be an amazing memory to share, just like how my dad got my Rocket Richard’s autograph.

  17. Katie LMonday, February 25th, 2013 — 9:35pm PST

I would love to win these tickets and meet Gordie Howe because it’s my dad’s birthday on Friday and he’s the reason I started watching hockey. I think it would be a fantastic present for him to meet someone that he watched play pro hockey when he was younger. Please pick me!!

  18. Lori KittelbergMonday, February 25th, 2013 — 9:41pm PST

I completed cancer treatment in October. My husband took incredible care of me and our son. I would love to take him to meet Gordie Howe.

  19. FatimaMonday, February 25th, 2013 — 9:43pm PST

It would be a honour to meet Mr. Hockey himself and it is a once in a life time opportunity

  20. John HoulihanMonday, February 25th, 2013 — 9:46pm PST

Why? …’cuz Gordie elbowed me after I asked him a simple question 🙂 last year. The spirit of hockey. He still has it! This goalie of ol’ stopped many-a-shots; facial scars to prove it. No matter how agressive, Mr. Hockey was always, and remains, a gentleman. Bower knows. Roaming one night, Johnny heard the rushing Howe say, “I’m coming behind you, Johnny.” The game back then was rough and tough, but hits were seldom cheap.

  21. KYMonday, February 25th, 2013 — 10:16pm PST

I don’t want to win the opportunity for myself, but for my girlfriend’s mother. Gordie was a player who she remembered while growing up and was one of her hockey heroes.

I would love to bring my father to meet a legend of hockey. Even when I was bratty teenager my father and I could talk about hockey and get along well, it would be a great experience to share with him.

  29. CameronTuesday, February 26th, 2013 — 11:05am PST

I grew up in the early 60’s in Toronto. Ball Hockey was the thing, every day until nightfall. We all “became” our idols when we played, and the more colourful the player, the easier it was to play them. We had our Esposito’s, Plantes, Mahovolich’s, Shack’s and of course the guy with the most fearsome elbows would be Howe. Team 1040 has been interviewing Marty, Mark, Bobby and Dennis in advance of Gordie’s birthday, and it brings back the memories of hero worship that we all had. Very few heroes today….
