The Lions Gate Bridge opened to traffic in November, 1938 but the official opening was on this day, May 26, 1939, overseen by this royal couple, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

In honour of this royal visit, and royal opening for our beloved cabled green crossing from Stanley Park to the North Shore, I have a few Lions Gate Bridge construction photos to share, thanks to the Vancouver Public Library and City of Vancouver Archives.
