BC Pet Hero: Enter to Win a Prize Pack

Comments 20 by Rebecca Bollwitt

Not often enough do we get to hear about positive stories about pets in the news, as they usually only make headlines when they’re in trouble. Petfood ‘n More has come up with a concept to celebrate a BC Pet Hero, where you can enter to win a prize pack by sharing a story about how a furry companion has touched your life or the life of others.

201608-BC-Heroes-Miss604Petfood ‘n More was founded in 1988 by two brothers who shared a deep love of pets and a desire to offer “More.” Combining previous work experience and a common vision, these young brothers set out to offer service beyond that of a traditional “pet store” service that would foster the unique relationship you share with your pet.

From the beginning, the goal was to keep your companions’ needs first and foremost by offering you honest, exceptional customer service and high quality products. With kind hearts and a genuine passion for the well-being of companion animals such as yours, the founders vowed to never sell pets in their stores. Instead, Pet Food ‘N More promotes that all companion animals deserve loving homes from birth and should never be treated as inventory. Through this decision, helping local animal shelters became a vital part of daily operations.

Win a Prize Pack

We’re hoping this entire contest entry thread will be filled with heart-warming stories, and I know it will be tough to pick a winner so that’s why the draw will be at random. The winning BC Pet Hero will receive a customized basket, filled with toys and treats, valued at $200 from their local Petfood ‘n More. Here’s how you can share you story:

  • Leave a comment on this post about your BC Pet Hero (1 entry)
  • Share a photo of your BC Pet Hero on Instagram and tag @petfoodnmore @miss604 #BCPetHero (1 entry)
  • Comment on this Facebook post (1 entry)
  • Post the following on Twitter (1 entry)
  • I know a #BCPetHero! RT to enter to win a $200 prize pack from @petfoodnmore @miss604 http://owl.li/qTgT303pyqU

I will draw one winner from all entries at 12:00pm on Thursday, August 24, 2016. The winner will be asked to consent to allow Petfood ‘n More to share their entry photo, video, or story entry on their social media channels, with full credit. Petfood ‘n More has locations in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Surrey, Richmond, Maple Ridge, and Coquitlam.

    Update: The winner is Ruby!

My dog is tiny but has a huge heart! My son has autism and my dog has been such a lifesaver for him, as well as my daughter who has an anxiety disorder. He is the best snuggler, is always happy to see us and always helps out with cleaning the dishes.

My daughter has very bad anxiety and my pet heroes are both my dog and cat. Sometimes they are the only things that can calm her down.

We have an inground pool in our yard that is filled with friends and family all summer long. The first time we introduced our Catahoula-Blackmouth cross to the pool, she watched my son dive in then immediately jumped in and tried to pull him out. Every summer since, she lifeguards non-stop: if anyone is in the pool, she refuses to leave the deck for treats, toys, a pee break, or even the enemy — strangers entering our yard. Dixie paces all four sides of the pool, leaning over the water closest to anyone who submerges, carefully watching for signs of distress. She loves to swim, but won’t enter the pool for fun if on duty. And watch out — you’ll get a warning nip or growl if you try to distract her from her job with a pat or a cuddle. Our hard-working hero.

My pet hero is our cat Bruce. He is a rescue that we got from the SPCA 6 years ago. My son has autism and he and Bruce have been best friends from the day we brought Bruce home.

My BC Pet Hero is my dog Amba. Coming home to his happy wagging tail makes all the crazy work days so much better. I also think that pets really help us be better versions of ourselves when we allow them to teach us how to slow down & enjoy the simple things in life.

I have had many pet hero in my life living on a farm. Often these pet hero’s are mothers, from ducks to cattle risking their lives to defend their young from predators. One of my favorite is the friendships between cows, girlfriends if you will. During a storm once, I noticed out in the field one cow was racing around the field looking for her calf, the rest of the herd had already head into the barn for shelter.

She must have left her calf sleeping in a hidden place, which tends to happen while the mother grazes when the calves are young. As I went out to help in the hunt, I saw another young cow with out a calf leave the barn and join her friend in the search. Both cows ran, and called. I found the calf sleeping beside a black berry bush and chased him to join his frantic mother and her helper. All three high tailed it back to the barn.

My pet hero is Samantha aka Sam. I trapped her and her 4 siblings in 2000. They were so wild, I could only take one to the 1st Vet visit. They mellowed over time and decided hunans were ok. Sam loved all dogs and cats. She was one who made stray animals feel at home. In November 2014 a feral kitten named Pip arrived. Sam adopted her. When Pip felt unsure or scared she would run to Sam. A dog soon arrived who didn’t want to share with cats. Sam ignored his rude behaviour, he give in, Sam became his cat and he accepted the other cats. Her last act of friendship was to welcome the latest stray cat. The cat comes for breakfast and dinner but isn’t too sure about me. Sam had hyperthyroidism for years and the hot weather on the weekend was too much for her. She was put to sleep on Monday. We will all miss her greatly.
