Von Bondies Play Richards on Richards

May 30th, 2008 by Miss604   3 Comments

After rescheduling from late April until this weekend, I’m pretty darn ready to go see the Von Bondies rock out at Richards on Richards tomorrow night.
In all honesty I was first introduced to them when I started watching Rescue Me, as their song C’mon C’mon plays during the opening credits.

It wasn’t until John started [...]

604 Records Showcase at New Music West

May 16th, 2008 by Miss604   5 Comments

Tonight I took in my first taste of New Music West alongside Arieanna, Ianiv, and Duane (who was my official photographer for the evening) at the Red Room.
The event was the 604 Records showcase - no relation although my ears did perk up whenever someone thanked ‘604′.
Unfortunately I must admit that despite the acts [...]

Media Partnership with the Surrey Fusion Festival

May 13th, 2008 by Miss604   12 Comments

I must admit this is a pretty proud moment for me. Not only do I get to use my social media skills to promote and live blog a community event, but this is for a festival in my old neighbourhood, in my hometown - and it’s going to be pretty darn great. Miss604.com is pleased [...]

RadioZoom Episode #145 - New Music West

April 9th, 2008 by Miss604   1 Comment

It’s been a while since we’ve done a regular episode but when I recently got the chance to speak with New Music West’s own Jory Groberman about the upcoming festival, I thought what better way to capture it than on RadioZoom.
New Music West is… “The largest and most influential new music event in Western North [...]

The Black Keys Rock the Commodore

April 6th, 2008 by Miss604   4 Comments

What’s better than watching a completely rockin’ band at the Commodore for $20? Not much at all really. Despite the fact that I felt out of place with out a fedora, horn-rimmed glasses, a beard, or a jean jacket, I thoroughly enjoyed The Black Keys.

The volume and caliber of nostril-tickling sound that those two [...]

Thursday Link Fest: Epic, Cupcakes, Law, DemoCamp, REM!

April 3rd, 2008 by Miss604   9 Comments

I have so many mini topics to cover that if I were to write a blog post for each people would get annoyed about how I’m too prolific and my feed would swamp their readers and it would just be a mess. On that note, if you’d like to simply get my feed (without Flickr [...]

Win Tickets to The Submarines

March 14th, 2008 by Miss604   5 Comments

As we gear up for concert season, our dance card is getting pretty full. Luckily a lot of great bands tend to make their way over to our fair city to treat us with some excellent live shows - which are always a good time. It just so happens that through the magic of my [...]

March 3rd, 2008 by Miss604   3 Comments

My Surrey touchstone in the blog world, Paul, sent along a Facebook invite to the following event that made me (almost) get up and do the chicken dance.
“Bring your friends and kick it old style as we bring back Stardust Roller Skating! Battle of the Bands, vote for your favorite! Dance demonstrations, roller skating, [...]

Matthew Good’s latest album, Hospital Music, debuted at #1 in Canada and climbed up the top 10 even on iTunes charts in the US where he doesn’t even have a label. We [...]

With all the talk about outdoor skating rinks lately I was pretty pleased to hear that they will be constructing one (temporarily) in Surrey for Winterfest 2008.

Don’t Forget about the River Rock in Richmond

December 29th, 2007 by Miss604   7 Comments

I’ve been to the River Rock only once since it’s been a casino, but several times when its tower was a clock for the Riverport Market, which was not dissimilar to the Lonsdale Quay.

It was for my birthday and we gambled, had drinks, and scarfed down mounds of prime rib [...]
