Trevor Linden Street Naming Petition and the CBC’s Early Edition

    April 9th, 2008 by Miss604 | 11 Comments »

Raise a Reader Day - Trevor & Me
My moment with Trev in 2006

Yesterday the CBC contacted Gary because he’s responsible for an online petition to get a street renamed after Trevor Linden. Unfortunately Gary wasn’t available to go into the CBC ‘bunker’ this morning so I was his stand-in. I was basically asked, “why name a street after Linden?” and after I initially froze after the first question (cause I get nervous like that) I think the rest of the interview with Rick Cluff went okay. You can listen online sometime today or tomorrow on the Early Edition’s website.

When trying to find the Facebook group dedicated to the same street-naming cause, I came across over 130 other groups all in support of Linden. Here are a few examples:

  • Linden for Mayor
  • Linden for Premier
  • Linden for Prime Minister
  • Linden for Coach
  • Make a Linden Statue
  • “Linden is my homeboy”
  • “I want Linden to be my baby’s daddy”
  • Linden for Jesus
  • … just to name a few.

It’s no surprise that this city is crazy about him. Like many have echoed, he personifies the Canucks in this hockey-crazy town that hasn’t even won a Stanley Cup since the beginning of last century. He’s represented Canada on the world stage at the Olympics, and in the World tournament, he’s been an All Star, a record-breaker, award-winner, and is also currently up for the Masterton Trophy for 2008.

We’ve got Joe Sakic Way in Burnaby and Griffiths Way downtown, both represent a tradition of hockey in this region and I think that a similar dedication to Linden is definitely in order - especially with his commitment off-ice to various charitable organizations for sick children.

Sign the petition, join the Facebook group, and let me know your thoughts below in this week’s Miss604 Poll.

Should we have a street in Vancouver named after Trevor Linden ?

Trevor Linden will be in the Early Edition studios tomorrow morning, check back to get his thoughts on the season, and maybe even this campaign (the CBC is 690 on your am dial).

Duane Rocks the Junos, Represents the Blogging Nation

    April 4th, 2008 by Miss604 | No Comments »

John and I have had our fair share of podcast interviews with bands and honestly it’s always been casual, friendly and from a fan’s perspective. Those are exactly the qualities I value in Duane’s coverage of the Junos so far in Calgary. He’s simply there to take photos, and experience it all as a blogger and that’s what has made his coverage so great so far (and we’re still two days away from the awards!) Here are a couple of his videos from the welcome reception this evening.

    I Show it All Off

    February 3rd, 2008 by Miss604 | 1 Comment »

When Dennis from The Beta News and Connected Internet contacted me about an ongoing segment/feature he writes I was more than happy to bear all. All of my desktop that is.

Show Me Your Desktop” is an opportunity to find out more about bloggers around the world while getting a sneak peek at their desktops, where I’m certain all of our daily computing begins.

Dennis writes: Researching for this round of Show Me Your Desktop, my wife asked me how come I didn’t have many women in the interview series. This opened a whole new world for me. The world of Canadian bloggers…

You can read the rest of the interview on The Beta News or Connected Internet.

A very important shout out goes to Philippe Sokazo, whose image I am currently using as my wallpaper. He’s a local artist and you can find some of his work on his Flickr or his website, Sokazo.com. He’s also a part of the Spirit of Stanley Park, which I’ll explore in depth in another post.

TV time, Radio fun, and Hockey Legends

Since there is just so much to take in over the last two days, the following is simply a photo post.

    CTV Interview
Friday night I accompanied Keira to CTV for her spot about the MySpace extravaganza.

Following that we headed to the Shark Club to watch the Canucks game and met up with Captain Scotty of the CFOX morning crew.

This morning, John and I went to North Vancouver and spent several hours enjoying Standard Building and Supplies’ Customer appreciation day, rubbing elbows with local and international hockey legends.

It was amazing to see Bobby Baun, meet him and shake his hand. He played for the Maple Leafs (alongside Tim Horton) when they won the 1963-1964 Stanley Cup.

    Ginnnooooo! Babych!

Very cool to get my photo with infamous Canucks scrapper Gino Odjick and Dave Babych (with his trademark mustache… which is now more of a goatee) who is such a nice guy.

“King” Richard Brodeur (left) and Bobby Hull (right), I’ll never forget this day and the fact the Bobby Hull called me “cutie”. I also adore his message on my autograph: “To Rebecca, With Love, Bobby Hull #9“.

The Real Keira-Anne and Miss604 on CTV

A short while ago Keira was contacted by a reporter about the MySpace identity debacle. Since its discovery, she was able to get the profile deleted and notify some of the imposter’s contacts. Luckily I had time to capture some screenshots of the photos posted on the account before its removal. It’s nice to look back and laugh at the good times she and I had in “Hay Park” when she was visiting from Austin.

Not sure if I’ll get some face time on the story, but we’re meeting with CTV this evening so I assume it will be on the 6:00pm or late night news.

Unfortunately, as experienced with The Crazy Canucks, CTV usually pulls their content from YouTube so we may not be able to view it later - save for my whatever my mom captures with her VCR - so let us know how it goes.

Get Connected With The Crazy Canucks

    April 28th, 2007 by Miss604 | 3 Comments »

From print to TV [1][2] and now radio, this afternoon Dave, John and I will be on CKNW, talking about The Crazy Canucks and podcasting in general for their segment called Get Connected.

The Crazy Canucks on CKNW talkin' bout Podcasting

Get Connected is the ultimate guide to getting your business connected with technology. Each week host Mike Agerbo and co-hosts AJ Vickery and Yolande Lougheed are going look at what’s hot and why.

Dave alone has about five podcast, while John and I have two - although we’ve been slacking on the RadioZoom lately - and we’re all avid bloggers. I’m pretty uncertain as to the content of the show, what we’ll be asked or asked to talk about but it should be some great exposure for our group project and podcasting as a medium. Listen Live on CKNW, today from 1:00pm today, and we should be on around 1:30pm.

    Rising Fame Through Baked Goods

    April 10th, 2007 by Miss604 | 22 Comments »

The camera man just called the producer and said, “I’m sitting here with a bunch of donuts and a nice lady,” the person on the other end of the phone replied “what a nice combination.” The CBC contacted me a few days ago about a post I had written, it just so happens that it’s about donuts.

CBCDonuts As I’m sitting here, there’s a CBC camera in my face and a donut in my mouth. John’s going to kill me for typing and eating at the same time, but it’s all in the name of “donuts”; more importantly, donut blogging. My fingers are getting sticky but I’m actually learning quite a bit about donut nutrition- no matter how silly I may look. I have to hold a donut in my mouth while I’m typing this and I think I’m starting to drool. I am feeling SO attractive right now.

John is being a great PA and getting me a moist dish towel so I can wipe my hands between each take. I am continuing to type while they take shots of the keyboard. I cracked a comment about how I wish we could do this with beer next time. I think I could handle about 20 takes of beer drinking better than I can all these donuts. Mmmm maple deliciousness dripping from my hands. (I just typed that line 8 times, deleted, then typed it again). After the last take John comments “Yay, you’re going to be stock footage!” The camera man Randy assures me that’s quite the possibility.

I don’t know when this will be up and when I can share my lovely donut story on the CBC National news, but I will be sure to keep everyone posted. It’s been really fun, silly and sugar-loaded, plus I get to have my blog shown on TV. The fact that I had to cram baked goods in my mouth repeatedly for close up shots isn’t the most comforting but… it’s all for the good of the blog, eh.

*Interesting side note: The interview was conducted remotely, so I had an ear piece to listen to the questions being directed my way. When the camera man was hooking me up to all the microphones and audio thingie ma bobs he passed an ear bud over to me then casually mentioned something about its cleanliness. He noted under his breath that the last person to have this bud in their ear was our Premier, Gordon Campbell. Aside from drinking lots of water after the shoot, I made good use of a couple of Q Tips as well.

Update: This segment will air on the National, tomorrow - Thursday April 12, 2007. Check local listings, due to the playoffs (god bless’em) time slots could be outta whack.

Update: I was on for about… 15 seconds, I was “token blogger” and Miss604.com or my name was never mentioned. Oh well. I think they wanted me to sound a little more shocked about the unhealthy badness of donuts, maybe my “I’ll eat a freakin donut if I wanna donut” approach didn’t suit the story :-P.

    Sparta at the Commodore Tonight!

    March 30th, 2007 by Miss604 | No Comments »

Sparta @ Richards on RichardsWe interviewed Jim Ward last November at Richards on Richards before their big break out with their new album Threes. Quick, brief intro: He’s one of 4 band members in Sparta and since then have played Conan, Craig Ferguson, done so many events and toured across North America. I was just listening to the radio and they were interviewed on the 6 o’clock rock report - man, our interview was SO much better hehe (it’s all about being organic and grassroots eh, Dave!).

Their first single was “Taking Back Control” and one of my favourite tracks (that they’re playing on the radio right now) is “Erase it Again”. They kick ass and they’re back in town tonight at the Commodore - go get your ticket!
