For the second time this year, I am organizing a Twestival event in Vancouver. Twestival is a global fundraising event that is organized through Twitter, using the service to gather volunteers, get community input, invite participants, and publicize the event. Twestival will be like a meetup, where you can show up, have some food, win [...]

Workspace, shared work environment in Gastown, has officially closed its doors for good. The sudden move has left many flabbergasted as Workspace had become an institution of sharing, learning, networking, and to-die-for coffee over the years. It’s that time of year again… it’s time for BarCamp. BarCamp actually has nothing to do with an actual “Bar” per se. It’s a social media, social networking, and open-format technology unconference. If you’ve become familiar with the Northern Voice Conference, it’s similar but on a smaller scale. For a full description of BarCamp and [...]

Social media experiments are popping up all over the place, from sales initiatives, to fundraisers and even selling houses through Twitter. Karen, a local wine blogger known to those on Twitter as Winebard, is conducting her own experiment for one of the most important days of her life. “I am inviting vineyards in Napa and [...]

Ideas on Tap is happening tonight at the Commodore Ballroom from 5:30pm until 8:30pm. Correct me if I’m wrong but with 800 tickets scooped up already this may very-well be the largest social media-type gathering this town has seen (I’m thinking Northern Voice say numbers up to 400 so this could be the case).

Last night Wantsa held an event for social media types in order to introduce their brand and offer up some teaser information about their powerful online recommendation engine that’s soon to launch. The evening was organized by one of their latest team members, Colleen Coplick, who is no stranger to the Vancouver new media scene. [...]

I was listed as one of the 140 characters for 140conf, a Twitter conference happening next week in New York city. However, due to some tight deadlines that have me running in circles, I had to back out. It pains me to miss this conference as it’s organized by Jeff Pulver and will see a [...]
