WordCamp Gets Covered in the 24 Hours

    May 7th, 2008 by Miss604 | 3 Comments »

This morning edition of the daily commuter paper, 24 Hours Vancouver, has local radio host and tech columnist Buzz Bishop giving the low down on the happenings at last week’s WordCamp.

As he was not in attendance, he cited my live blog for more info and included a huge photo of Lisa’s “Your Ad Here” sign on her bum. The image deals with the topic of advertising on blogs, however I wonder if he’s also tying it in with his column about saving face with Facebook, “don’t put up anything you wouldn’t want your mom to see.”

WordCamp Links in the 24 Hours

I hope not, because on top of having a great sense of humour Lisa’s got some excellent insights on her post and be sure to read through the comments (over 50 of them) for thoughts about ads on blogs. John Chow is also mentioned in the article since he’s the king of blog dollars around here and I brought him up during my talk at Simon Fraser University on Monday (cause I actually think what he is doing is ingenious, which is more than I can say for other ad-plastered blogs).

For more info about WordCamp and your next opportunity to meetup with WordPress users, gurus and newbies, check out the Tazzu blog because they did a great job of spearheading the first event and we’re certainly all looking forward to more.

    Miss604 Stickers are Here!

    February 20th, 2008 by Miss604 | 13 Comments »

While everyone is still waiting on their Moo cards, my good friend has mass-produced some stickers that I’ll be handing out to all who want them over the next few days. They are just like the image I have on my Macbook but now in a nice compact wallet-size!

    photo.jpg

Special item of note - as these stickers were donated by my friend (for this first time) I’ve attached his business card so that if you’re in the market for some fancy stickers, shirts, embroidered caps for your baseball team and things of that nature, you can give him a buzz.

If you’d fancy a Miss604 sticker just ask me at NV on Friday on Saturday, I’ll be around and as a volunteer and speaker I quite possibly easy to find. Oh and if you do get a sticker, and you do decide to stick it somewhere, feel free to take a photo and add it to the Miss604 Flickr Group.

    A Series of Tubes

    February 6th, 2008 by Miss604 | 1 Comment »

Miss604.com will be going through some changes over the next little while.

No, not those kinds of changes - and you probably won’t even notice a thing.

We’re trying to keep up to date with the growth the site has seen in the last little while and as a result some upgrades will need to be made. I know mid-week is an undesirable time in which to perform such maintenance but I have no other choice. Please bear with me as the site may flutter in and out of consciousness for the next day or so but I assure you once everything’s back up and better than ever it will be worth the wait.

Also, a new Miss604 contest will also be announced and you’ll have to do practically nothing to be entered (not like the cartwheels, belly circles and head taps that I requested last time).

So please, stay tuned, bear with us, and thanks so much for reading, you guys are great!

New Look of Miss604.com Thanks to Raincity Studios

    January 8th, 2008 by Miss604 | 24 Comments »

I (heart) Raincity. I do, it’s true. I’m a closet wannabe Raincity girl (since I can no longer be a Bryght Girl). They do amazing work, they preach Drupalese to the masses and their folks have helped put Vancouver on the map in terms of being a tech hub in this country. What have they done for me lately though? Well, you may notice something new on the site…

I’ve been working with Hubert to create the new banner and logo over the last few months, as he was kind enough to take on my project. Another big thanks goes to Robert Scales, who is now over in China setting up Raincity Shanghai. This group of individuals has pretty much given me the rockstar treatment even while they were in the middle of a merge and a redesign of their own site - not to mention continuing to do business for all of their other valued clients.

So, here it is, with lots of potential for merchandising and sticker dispensing at your next local social media event. Leave me a comment, let me know what you think, and none of this would be possible without the super great staff at Raincity Studios Vancouver.

    Wired’s Sexy Geeks of 2007

    January 2nd, 2008 by Miss604 | 8 Comments »

Last February Tod Maffin’s photo outranked one of me in a bikini on my Flickr photo stream. This year, he was nominated as one of Wired’s “Sexiest Geeks of 2007“.

Welcome to the third annual Wired News Sexiest Geeks contest! Every year, we nominate the smartest, sexiest and most Wired men and women of the year… …Remember, geeks are not just computer nerds. They’re dedicated to the point of being obsessed, so smart they scare you, and hot in a possibly undefinable way. We know you know what we mean. [Wired]

Luckily, someone found me worthy (and geeky enough) to nominate me as well, which is pretty freakin’ cool.

    brains... ?

As an erstwhile and once again Vancouver resident, Rebecca Bollwitt studiously documents the goings-on of the city’s burgeoning metropolitan and digerati scenes. As a result she’s developed quite a following among the local geek crowd, and bloggers in general. Her smart and sassy writing style combined with her penchant for wearing way-too small geek shirts makes Miss604 a must-read, and her honest-to-god technology credentials give her the chops to go a few rounds with the best of ‘em. [Wired]

If I would have known I would have posted that photo of me in a g-string and a bra sitting on a zebra-printed bed. Oh wait, that’s already been done by the G4 chick. Regardless, I think the fact that folks think I’m a smart and computer-savvy cookie means more than anything.

If you feel like voting for me (or Tod), click the links above. I have no idea if there’s even anything to be won, but the incoming link love is pretty great now I need some new geeky message t-shirts eh.

Update: Apparently voting is still open and I’m in still in the Top 25, fun!
