Welcome back to What the Surrey! It’s been a while since my last WTS post because honestly I keep forgetting that I have this lovely category to which I can post all my Surrey loving rants and info. Gearing up for Christmas and some quality holiday time spent in my hometown I’m sure I’ll have [...]

In WTS #10 I wrote about the logo contest for the City of Surrey. Submissions have been weeded down to 3 finalists and it’s up to citizens to head to the Surrey website and vote for their favourite.
Here’s a summary of the 3 choices, found by way of Paul’s blog:
Concept 1: “This logo emphasizes [...]

Why are so people buying up real estate in Surrey even though the media’s been doing their darnedest to tarnish it’s already muddied reputation? Maybe it’s for the candy money.

A local dentists office will be paying $1 for every piece of candy brought in before Nov. 15th in hopes to fight [...]

When I wrote a recent post, calling Surrey by it’s current motto, the “City of Parks”, my unofficial Surrey/Fraser Valley transit and logistical correspondent Paul, had something to say about it.
Surrey has never been worthy of the “City of Parks” designation. It boasts about it’s 500 parks, and expansive trail system. Psht. It’s all marketing…
…What [...]

You know me, I love my parks. This weekend I visited one that I haven’t been to since around 1998.
Named after the Kwantlen First Nation, Kwantlen Park stretches from 132nd street to Old Yale Road [Google Map]. It contains KB Woodward Elementary, Kwantlen Park Secondary (formerly West Whalley Jr. High), tennis courts, a skate park, [...]

The only time I spent as a patient at Surrey Memorial Hospital was way back on January 9th, 1980. Of course at the time I was only 7lbs, but I’m pretty thankful that SMH staff was there to bring me into this world, even though I was already pretty eager [...]

I have written about the Pattullo Bridge at length, well at least I think so as I have numerous posts over the last year on the topic of the Bridge of Death [1][2][3][4][5][6]. The bridge that has caused the death of 21 people since 1990 is being talked about again, as apparently every 6 months [...]

Surrey’s looking for a better image, literally. The city wants your feedback so that they can produce a shiney new logo to augment the current coat of arms. Residents can participate by filling out a survey, there’s also a chance to win various prizes when you provide input.
We want your thoughts on Surrey as we [...]

Last year our kids from Whalley Little League were off to Williamsport, PA for the Little League World Series (Aug. 17-26). While our North Surrey team didn’t make the cut this time around but lucky for locals, South Surrey/White Rock stepped up to the plate.
White Rock-Surrey Little League from White Rock, British Columbia needed only [...]

I had a big HUGE Surrey post all written up for this week then my cohorts at Metroblogging Vancouver decided to pump some life into the site by featuring a handful of posts about the suburbs.
Naturally, I chose Surrey so this week’s edition of WTS is actually over there.
You can also read [...]
