What it All Means

September 22nd, 2008 by Miss604   13 Comments

In the last ten days alone I’ve had the chance to meet and chat with Canadian beer-making legends, interview my all time favourite band (and one of Keira’s favourite bands), talk local history with a Vancouver mayoral candidate, laughed with the internet-famous, and meet another rock star who blogs.
After coming down from Las Vegas, eleven [...]

I was having a hard time trying to find a prize or a little bonus that I could offer up to those who have pledged or donated but it wasn’t until I published “M” is for Matthew Good that I got more than anyone could ask.

Blogathon Vancouver 2008: The Home Stretch

July 27th, 2008 by Miss604   4 Comments

For the last few weeks I have been trying to organize a way for Vancouver bloggers to stay up late and raise money for the charity of their choice. Using the Blogathon model, with the lack of their technology, we pieced together this effort and I think that everyone involved has done an amazing job. [...]

Blogathon Vancouver 2008: Fireworks to Wake Me Up

July 27th, 2008 by Miss604   4 Comments

Note to self, resting your eyes for “just a minute” while doing a Blogathon can turn into 45 minutes. Since I’m a little late getting this post out I’m going toss in this older photo from Dave in honor of last night’s fireworks.

July 27th, 2008 by Miss604   4 Comments

My Dad told me about this term that’s being used around the globe called, “Vancouverism” and John recently sent me this snapshot from The Guardian: “The regeneration of Vancouver mixes slender, tall towers with low rise buildings and public spaces. An exhibition to celebrate Vancouverism is being held at Canada House in London.”

Blogathon Vancouver 2008: Living Water Smart

July 27th, 2008 by Miss604   3 Comments

It’s pretty remarkable that now that the rain has started to fall, we’re not out in the tent somewhere as that’s the way things usually go with us and summer rain.
This year, a piddly 0.2 mm on July 3 and the same amount two days later means we’re out of the running for the driest [...]

Blogathon Vancouver 2008: The Flying Squirrels of Stanley Park

July 27th, 2008 by Miss604   No Comments

I am a big fan of the Stanley Park Ecology Society and the good work they go in the park - from guided walks to ive busters maintenance of the natural landscape. They have an upcoming event highlighting the flying squirrel (yes, there are flying squirrels in Stanley Park) that I would like to mention [...]

Blogathon Vancouver 2008: Day of Blogs

July 27th, 2008 by Miss604   No Comments

The Blogathon was not my creation, it’s something that has been around for many years and since its usual organizers decided to take a break for 2008, I picked up the torch for a mini Vancouver version. There were others who also decided it shouldn’t completely cease to be this year and they have been [...]

Blogathon Vancouver 2008: Guest Post by Keira

July 27th, 2008 by Keira-Anne Mellis   2 Comments

The following was written and contributed by Keira-Anne
I needed to share a story - any story. After some consideration, however, I realized that not just any story would do. Perhaps I could trick myself into finding inspiration. My desk was scattered with random papers, a can of half-drank Dr. Pepper my cell [...]

Blogathon Vancouver 2008: “Y” is for Yasutaro Yamaga

July 27th, 2008 by Miss604   2 Comments

I bet you thought I was going to do “Yaletown” eh? Well due to my trusty Vancouver History source I was able to do a quick search of the Hall of Fame and come up with Yasutaro Yamaga.
Born in Japan, Yasutaro Yamaga came to British Columbia in 1908. After working as a labourer, he purchased [...]

Blogathon Vancouver 2008: “X” is for X-Files

July 27th, 2008 by Miss604   2 Comments

When I was a teenager we got a notice through our mail slot stating that the X-Files would soon be filming at Kwantlen Park. My friends and I set out for the south end of the parking lot on the day of the shoot and waited for 3 hours while David Duchovny repeatedly drove around [...]
