Robson Street For the Holidays

Comments 2 by Rebecca Bollwitt

robson streetLiving in the West End we often try to avoid Robson street, except when it comes to taking the bus to and from destinations. We prefer the tree-covered strolls of the side streets to the hustle and bustle of tourists, shoppers, students, and those in much more of a hurry than us.

That’s not to say we don’t enjoy the businesses (like London Drugs for the staples, Fogg and Suds for games, 7-Eleven or Blenz for emergency coffee, Robson Market for everything else etc.) but sometime it’s nice to enjoy our little neighbourhood sidewalks and paths that fewer travel.

However, the Robson Street Business Association does do some great work and this season they’re offering a few services that might really come in handy.

Robson Street BA Tree Sale
Location: 800 block of Bute, between Robson and Haro
Hours: Saturday December 13th 11:00am to 7:00pm, and Sunday December 14th, from 11:00am to 7:00pm (they were also there on Friday).

Robson Street BA Gift Wrapping
Location: Haro Park Centre (1233 Haro at Bute)
Hours: December 12, 18, 19, 22-24 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, and December 13, 14, 20 & 21 from 11:00am to 7:00pm.
Details: Gift wrapping service is by donation and proceeds will support Haro Park Centre. “Haro Park Centre provides a variety of housing and service options including Complex Care (Intermediate Care and Extended Care levels), Assisted Living and subsidized Independent Housing.”

They also have a few new shops opening up, including an electronic annex to London Drugs, Lids, and hopefully very soon, Safeway.

From what I’ve heard, the new Safeway will be opening on Friday. I can’t wait; I’ll be in there at the first opportunity to complain about the new lights they’ve put up in the alley behind the store. They shine into my windows like the Kenny Rogers Roasters sign in that Seinfeld episode! I hope they’ll be receptive to the complaint and be able to do something about it; the city doesn’t need more light pollution, whether it’s in the sky or in my window.

I wish I was closer to the 604 so that I could take advantage of this info, but unfortunately I’m thousands of kilometers away lol
