Live at YVR Storyteller Search

The Vancouver International Airport (“YVR”) is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year and to mark this milestone, they’re hosting a unique video contest.

They would like to find someone who can live at YVR (and not leave Sea Island) for 80 days. This person will share their experiences through social media and share video updates for the YVR Connections blog. Whoever wins the Live@YVR contest will be staying at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel and be given an HD camera for their reporting. They’ll be able to go behind the scenes and answer many questions people might have about an airport. What happens in the wee hours of the morning? Where does your luggage go?

YVR Domestic Terminal

As someone who takes an average of 30 flights a year, I truly appreciate our beautiful airport and how it’s become a part of our community. From the Observation Area, to Take Off Fridays (returning this year), and its awe-inspiring artwork and design.

If you think you have what it takes to cover 80 days at YVR, you can enter by video on the contest site (powered by Strutta) by July 18th. The Live@YVR storyteller will begin their 80 days at the airport August 17th, 2011.

This is so cool. YVR would be a great place to live but I’d be sad not being able to get on any flights.

Wow. I pitched them something almost exactly like this two years ago. Obviously, I’m ahead of my time.

If I didn’t have a vacation lined up at the end of August, I might be in for this.

…although 80 days at the airport, even one as nice as YVR…well…

As cool as our airport is, that would be hell on Earth for me.

This also reminds me of when Alain de Botton spent a week at Heathrow:

Being stuck at an airport isn’t my idea of glam.

But you get to stay at the Fairmont.. not like you have to physically sleep in the terminal. 80 days there eh.. no rent? Do you get food vouchers? lol

Wonder if they would let me ride the conveyor belt with the luggage and the HD Cam?

Very cool contest. Nice to see that the contest is powered by a local company, Strutta. Living at the Fairmont would be pretty nice!

My vid was entered on my birthday, the 4th of July, and I am hoping to make it into the top 5! I love people and creating vid’s like this. Telling the people’s story… like Miss 604 ; )
