United Way Kick-Off at the Cauldron

Tomorrow afternoon the Olympic cauldron in Jack Poole Plaza downtown will be lit as the City of Vancouver proclaims September 7th “United Way Day“.

This will mark the launch of the United Way’s 2011 fundraising campaign to help vulnerable children, families and seniors throughout the region.

The United Way Kick-Off at the Cauldron festivities will run from 11:30am until 1:30pm with cauldron lighting to take place at 12:20pm. On the plaza you will be able to enjoy music (from Dr. Strangelove), activities, a beef and veggie burger BBQ, BC Lions team prizes, and more. The event will be hosted by Mark Madryga, Senior Meteorologist at Global News.

    I worked as part of the United Way team back in 2002. It’s a crazy four months of fundraising, but so rewarding at the same time. It’s a great charity and I encourage everyone to contribute what they can.
