Then and Now English Bay

Comments 1 by Rebecca Bollwitt

English Bay beach, popular with locals and tourists, has been a favourite summertime recreation destination for the last century and a half. I had some fun looking around the City of Vancouver Archives to match up some vintage photos with modern day images to show how the area has changed:

My mother, Marjorie Joyce Abernethy, was barely pregnant with me when she was runner up in the Miss English Bay competition. This would have been in 1947 or 1948. In checking out your Then and Now English Bay article, I wondered if you had any photos of that event? This would mean a great deal to me, since she died several years ago.

    Thanks for your assistance
