Maker Faire Vancouver takes place September 14th at Science World. Join more than 50 Vancouver-based artists, tinkerers, inventors, crafters, and other Makers for a day-long extravaganza of crafting, learning, and exploring!

The Maker movement encompasses a diverse range of disciplines, and welcomes Makers from all walks of life. Makers are tech enthusiasts, metal artists, homesteaders, painters, potters, 3D printing enthusiasts, knitters, roboticists, -anyone embracing the Do-It-Yourself (or Do-It-Together) ethos. The maker community is expanding, diverse, and inclusive.
Makers are encouraged to incorporate a hands-on element to their exhibits, and as a result fair attendees have had the opportunity to try their hand at activities like felting, candle-making, robot building, soldering, letterpress, 3D printing, laser cutting, leather working, spinning, lampwork, and button making.
Vancouver singer-songwriter Babe Gurr celebrates the release of her new recording ‘Blurred Lines’ at the Rogue on September 6th. Joining her will be Paul Pigat (guitar), Nick Apivor (percussion), Jeff Gammon (stand-up bass) and Simon Kendall (keys, accordion, support vocals).

Babe Gurr’s sound defies labelling but musically she finds a home best described as adult alternative – a fusion of blues/pop, with a twist of roots. Her new release “Blurred Lines” exemplifies her unique and seamless blend of genres. Her warm and sultry voice, intelligent lyrics, memorable melodies and savvy personality add up to pretty much everything you want to see on a stage.
The organic bent to Babe Gurr’s music contributes to the success of her songwriting. Babe has recently received accolades; taking the win for the Sonicbids Nashville Song Contest, garnering honourable mention for three self-penned tunes in the acclaimed Billboard World Song Contest, and being selected as a finalist for three tunes in the 12th and 13th Great American Song Contests.
Whether live in concert or on her various recordings, this artist promises to bring people on an emotional rollercoaster. Audiences will feel a whole range of emotions while on this musical journey but will walk away with a smile upon their faces.

one set of stairs, totalling 300 continuous metres, and continue on to the
steep trail that follows along the power lines up to Westwood Plateau. This
entire loop up to the top and back down to the base is just under 5 kilometres
and takes approximately 1-1.5 hours to complete.

Ticket includes a taster glass, a program, and a BC Transit Get Home Safe bus ticket. Tokens are not included with the ticket.
This year they’re accepting the blue and green beer tokens from years past. All you have to do is bring them with you to the festival and redeem as normal at a brewery booth. No need to exchange them for the new red tokens, but note that this will be the last year you can use them!
Recently named one of the Top 10 Beer Cities in the World (by CNN), Victoria’s beer festival will feature a diverse range of more than 100 craft breweries from British Columbia (and beyond) along with local cideries and food trucks. The BC Ale Trail-er will also be on-site serving a selection of beers from breweries that are unable to make the trip to Victoria.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet the brewers and learn more about Canada’s beer culture. Some breweries will even have unique cask-conditioned beers specially produced for the festival.
Several breweries serving beer at the festival have only been open a couple of months, including Whistle Buoy Brewing (Victoria), Ace Brewing (Courtenay), Container Brewing (Vancouver), Rustic Reel Brewing (Kelowna), Wildeye Brewing (North Vancouver), and Slackwater Brewing (Penticton).
What’s a party without food? Ali Baba, Deadbeetz, Greek on the Street, L’Authentique, Mama Rosies, Roast, Taco Justice, and The Deep Friar food trucks will be on site as well.

We have a lot of runs and relays around Vancouver but how about a competitive paddle? The Indian Arm Challenge is an endurance race that attracts paddlers from all over the PNW to Deep Cove to experience the beauty of the area by way of paddling 32km as a solo racer or 16km as a relay team.

When: Saturday, September 14, 2019 starting at 12:00pm Where: Deep Cove Kayak Centre (2156 Banbury Rd, North Vancouver) Entry Free: $50 – participate in a sea kayak, outrigger canoe, or on a paddleboard
The 32km paddle leaves from the Deep Cove Kayak Centre rental centre and heads all the way up Indian Arm, around the distinctive Croker Island to the mighty Granite Falls, before heading back to Deep Cove where it began started. Paddlers can choose to complete the race solo, in a multi-person boat, or as part of a relay team which switches at Granite Falls.
It’s expected that the fastest paddlers will complete the course in around 3 hours, with the safety cut off at 6 hours to ensure all racers are safe. Following the Race, there will be awards and food for the participants. As this is a “Low Impact Event”, participants are asked to bring their own cup, plate and utensils for their food and beverage.
